TRAVIS “TRAVROC” DOMMERMUTH
While having started doodling and drawing at a very young age, my artistic journey truly started for me back in the early 80’s. Exposure to Hip Hop and skateboard culture in NY in the early to mid 80’s helped mold me into who I was as a youth. In turn, those two worlds started me down a creative path and lifestyle that have influenced everything I’ve touched over the years. While continuing to grow and branch out into many other areas through my life, my roots in these two cultures continue to influence everything I work on to this day. After graduating from the Fashion Institute of Technology in Manhattan with a Bachelors of Illustration in 1997, and a relatively brief freelance illustration career, I fell into the fashion industry in the late 90’s and have been working with various companies in the industry ever since. It started off simple enough, creating graphics for various licensed and private label brands, but eventually led to working on multiple apparel and accessory categories…t-shirt and apparel graphics, cut & sew apparel, head wear, cold weather goods, bags and backpacks, small leather goods, men’s and women’s swimwear, sleepwear, footwear and more. These days, I’ve moved away from product design completely and stick specifically to the fine art/illustration/graphic design side of things. Currently, there is an equal balance between traditional painting/illustration and digital design work that I produce. That being said, I consider myself a painter and illustrator above all else and I am always exploring ways to include my passion for traditional illustration, hand styles, calligraffiti and letter forms into my design work. Subsequently, I intentionally include as much hand drawn illustration, artwork and lettering in my work as possible. I have an immense appreciation for the balance in using traditional painting and drawing mediums and techniques to compliment the digital aspect of design. Pushing pixels is cool, but pushing pencils, pens and paint is infinitely better. Say word.
